What We Do / What Patients Can Expect
At Plett Optical we are passionate about eyes, we pledge to take your vision seriously and make your wellbeing our main focus. We examine your eyes, offer advice on visual problems and prescribe and fit spectacles or contact lenses where needed. We are trained in detecting vision threatening eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, or diabetic retinopathy. Should we detect any diseases we will refer you to a professional in the eye care field.
We take the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe the possible options you may have and listen to your eye care needs. Good nutrition and health is paramount to good eye health and an ongoing partnership, and therefore we encourage you to share your health information with us, which could be imperative to diagnosing, monitoring and treating potential vision problems.
We believe that every person is unique and therefore we have several effective tests to establish what your personal needs may be. There are many factors that play a role in a person’s eye health of which include but are not limited to the daily work environment, physical environment, age and family history. We conduct a very thorough and full ocular examination every time and you can be sure that we do not compromise on quality service and genuine care. We have a holistic approach and know that you have specific and individual needs, and with your participation, we will offer personal advice and prescribe what is right for you.
Your decision about your eye wear goes beyond good vision and makes a statement about who you are. Your choice not only affects how you look but also how you want to be seen by others. We know that choosing the right frame can be overwhelming and getting the right look for your face and your lifestyle is important. That is why we have a plethora of popular designer frames and branded sunglasses to choose from. We will assist you in choosing a frame that is not only beautiful but is functional and comfortable with your prescription as well.
Come see for yourself! And should you opt for contact lenses we will make sure they fit perfectly. Just in case you were wondering, contact lenses have come a long way since 1887 when they inserted full glass lenses that were seriously uncomfortable and just plain dangerous. Modern day silicone hydrogel contact lenses are more comfortable and easier to fit. Occasionally hard lenses are still fitted, and they do have their benefits such as allowing better oxygen flow to the eye with clearer visual acuity and can be utilized when a prescription cannot be filled with soft lenses in cases such as high astigmatism and people with corneal disorders.
We understand that there are many challenges spectacle wearers face such as glasses that touch your eyebrows and lashes, sit too high or too low and slide down constantly or hurt behind the ears. We assure you that this can easily be addressed with a visit to our clinic. We are your own personal guide to lens and spectacle care.
We clearly know so here are some tips to share:
Always place your spectacles with the glasses facing up
Use both your hands to remove them from your face
Use a quality lens cleaner and cloth acquired by your optometrist
Store your spectacles in a sturdy case and avoid leaving them in the heat of the sun
So, if you can’t see it by now, it’s time to book a visit with us because we are clearly the optometrist for you! A little detail such as unclear vision can rob you of your joy, so let us take care of the seeing part so you have more time for the simple joys in life.

Hybrid Contact Lens Fittings
Effective and immediate assistance with getting the perfect pair of high-quality eye lens.
Technology has come a long way since the first contact lenses were fitted in 1887. Back then the lenses were made of glass and covered the whole eye. They were uncomfortable and downright dangerous and had the potential to cause many ocular problems if fitted or worn incorrectly.
We now fit and use silicone hydrogel soft contact lenses on the vast majority of contact lens wearers and occasionally still fit hard lenses. Each has its own benefits and downfalls. Soft lenses are more comfortable, easier to fit and are overall more dynamic whereas hard lenses provide more oxygen flow to the eye, give clearer visual acuity (when fitted correctly) and can be used when a script is difficult to correct with soft contact lenses (high astigmats and people with corneal disorders such as kerataconus). Hard lenses do require more upkeep and are less comfortable than soft lenses.
